For many of its participants, to know Sister Carmen Community Center is to know the way home. This well-respected Lafayette, Colo.-based family resource center provides assistance to over 2,500 families in need—a number that can soar even higher during the holidays. Established in 1978, Sister Carmen Community Center (SCCC) serves Lafayette, Louisville, Superior, and East Boulder by operating a food bank, community garden, and thrift store and by offering a variety of classes to help people get back on their feet and to a place of self-sufficiency and dignity. “There isn’t anyone we serve who isn’t courageous,” says Basic Needs Program Manager Sarah Jensen.
