Roast Turkey, Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Cranberry Sauce, Green Bean Bake, Sweet Potatoes, and Pumpkin Pie. That’s the go-to menu most families end up feasting on this Thanksgiving, right? Well, this year I’m cooking for eight adventurous eaters, so I’ve added seven of my non-traditional holiday favorites to my Thanksgiving planner over at the Kitchen.
I like to start with the Vegan Wild Mushroom Soup with Thyme. Its flavors evoke the season, and it’s creamy and thick without any cream for the non-dairy crowd. The Rosemary Garlic Turkey served with the Pesto Mashed Potatoes on the side brings a Mediterranean slant to two very American favorites. No marshmallows were harmed in the making of the Sweet Potato Gratin, and the savory flavors more than make up for that. Green beans make an appearance in the fresh, crisp Green Bean Salad in Lemon Dressing. And you can’t have Thanksgiving without pumpkin, so the Pumpkin Dinner Rolls take care of that in a wonderful way. When a showstopping dessert is called for, the Cranberry Upside Down Cake spectacularly impresses.
