5 Easy Ways to Host a DIY Farm-to-Table Dinner

“Do you ever see those pictures of gorgeous farm-to-table dinners and think how fun it would be to have been there?” We couldn’t agree more with Sweet Phi, a Milwaukee-based blogger who begins her #myfarm2table blog with this question.

You don’t need to be a celebrated chef or a farmer to host your own DIY farm-to-table dinner. To show how fun and feasible it is to bring farm-fresh, local artisanal foods directly to your table, we partnered with our favorite food bloggers to launch the #myfarm2table challenge. We asked them to create luscious spreads for friends and family with seasonal, local ingredients found at our Shop. From recipes to decor ideas, you’ll find all the essential ingredients for the perfect farm-to-table feast here.

We hope you’re inspired to celebrate the harvest with a #myfarm2table on your lawn, patio, balcony, or dining room soon. Share your fun and foodie pics on Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest, with #myfarm2table. We’d love to see what you cook up!

Create rustic warmth with simple decor
Mason jars. Need we say more? Use them for fresh garden flowers and/or glasses. Other variations on the theme: burlap table runner, hay bale seating, herbal centerpieces, a string of old-fashioned outdoor lights, lanterns.

Plan your menu and shop for ingredients
Choose recipes that showcase in-season produce, like tomatoes, corn, green beans, peaches, or zucchini, as well as locally crafted meat and cheese, that you can find at the Shop. Meet the local farmers and artisans who grow and produce these foods, then share their stories with guests.

Feeling crafty? It’s easy to design and print out simple menus and place cards that guests can take home.

Prep and cook the local bounty
Choose recipes you can make ahead so you’ll have time to enjoy dinnertime talk with your guests.

Here are some of our favorite bloggers’ #myfarm2table recipes to inspire your menu:
Salad: Salad with Soft-Boiled Eggs, Bacon, Asiago & Buttermilk Dressing
Side dishes: Ginger-Glazed Seared Carrots & Roasted Potato & Kohlrabi Salad
Main dishes: Chicken Milanese with Roasted Tomatoes, Vegetarian Stuffed Zucchini Boats & Pan Bagnat
Desserts: Bourbon Peach Pie & 5-Ingredient Jam Crumb Bars
Drinks: Basil Lemonade & Sparkling Blueberry Pomegranate Cocktail

Toast the harvest's abundance
Refreshing homemade sips are a must. Stir up a pitcherful of fresh Basil Lemonade or find recipes for our fruit-infused waters. Some grownups may want to fortify with vodka, a locally distilled one if they’re lucky.

Set the mood with music
Create a relaxed vibe with a playlist of soothing and celebratory tunes.
